Gematria is a fascinating and ancient practice of using letter-numbering systems to interpret the written word. This methodology has been used for thousands of years, most notably in Judaic, Christianity, and Islamic cultures. The practice continues today as a part of Kabalistic and esoteric thought. A gematria calculator is a device that helps to calculate the numerical/matching value of each letter within words and phrases. By following a specific set of instructions, users can analyze numerical patterns derived from words or phrases written in Hebrew or another language.
There are several different systems that use gematria calculators depending on the culture in which it is used. The most popular form of gematria is known as Hebrew Gematria and uses the Hebrew alphabet rather than the Latin (English) alphabet. With this system, each letter has an equivalent numerical value which is used to determine the numerical relationship between words or phrases that have a similar meaning.
To use a gematria calculator, the user must first enter the text they wish to interpret into the designated textbox. Once entered, they can click 'calculate' to generate an array of numbers reflecting the numerical relationships between each individual letter within their inputted text. For example; if "good" was entered into a gematria calculator it would generate an array containing 3 (g), 15 (o), 4 (o), and 13 (d) for a total Gematrica value of 35.
This numerical relationship can then be used for various purposes such as casting spells, extracting hidden meaning from texts, analysing patterns in Kabbalistic lore or even getting numerological advice from trusted sources such as those from Jewish Tzedakah societies or priests/scholars versed in Gematric topics.
